Resignation

SL just tendered her resignation yesterday citing the work overload and constant sickness from her pregnancy as the reason. However, her MD didn’t accept her resignation. Instead, he told her to hire 2 more executives to assist her in the department and her pregnancy would be over in 6 months.

Last night, SL and I deliberated about the offer to stay and the assistance provided. I told her that she can stick to her original intention and don’t have to stay. Finally, we arrived at a conclusion which requires the MD to think about a proposal which SL has just given him this afternoon. She would stay on on 1 condition, to be able to work on a part-time basis (more like ½ day work in the mornings only) and take a pay cut. Otherwise, she’ll train someone and work right until before her delivery.
She told him that he can think it over his CNY holidays, which is what he originally told her to do 8-).

I sincerely happy for you that you made this situation a turn around from "employer market" to "employee power". You have shared SL eagers to be a homemaker, which I think it is even tougher task but most rewarding one. Make me so envy and hope that we can have the same ability to make such decision. :-) Will pray for you

thanks sky, i liked what you said abt "employee power". i told SL that i'm quite tired that employers always strongly dictate employees' actions, even crossing the line to family matters (though indirectly). it's abt time we make a choice to change that, at least with us.

many people grossly underestimate the importance of a homemaker, whom i think makes great contributions to the society (big picture) in terms of bringing up a human being and sending him/her into the world. our PM said before that even though M'sia is a developing country and has world-class facilities but unfortunately the mentality and attitude of M'sians stayed unchanged or going worse. this, i think, has a lot to do with many parents neglecting their roles at home and putting too much emphasis on their roles at work.

didn't mean to lecture here but i've always felt strongly on this issue.
