Great Products, High Prices

Last night, I had the privilege of watching a cleaning product demonstration by a friend. After watching it, I was left amazed by the ability of mankind to invent such a great machine. On one hand, I was immediately made a believer of the product. On the other hand, great products come with a price, one which I’m neither able to afford nor willing to pay.

In my limited knowledge and humble opinion, products which are marketed through MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) are overpriced. During SL’s early years of employment, she worked for such a MLM company and found out that cost prices of products marketed through this means are low but marked up 200%-300%! It is partly because some percentages of the profits go toward the income of the MLM members.

Being a product of the USA, I think the exchange rate also played a part in the product’s pricing over here. Therefore, I don’t feel the product is actually worth the RM pricing but more because of the exchange rate.

Having said all these, I’m not against MLM. It is legitimate work. I don’t doubt the goodness of products marketed. I don’t mind paying a high price if the product is really worth it. However, I don’t believe in paying excessively high price to continually benefit some quarters of people who have “made it” in the MLM structure, while some poor chap is continually working his/her butt off trying to be the “there”.

I may over-react but this is just me and my 2 cents.

I think the original price might have been ok for a USA earning person (plus the tax on the machine here is so high thus bloating the price further). It's a fascinating machine (I suspect we are refering to a hydro-cleaner?) :-)

even more interesting is the amount of dirt and dust we live with on a daily basis
